Grant Campbell 師範, Shihan, is the principal
instructor and director of this organization. Grant Campbell became one
of the senior ranked and respected foreign martial artists in Okinawa, Japan as well as the only non
Asian martial arts teacher to be ranked in the top rankings of the
Masters division at the most prestigious Martial Arts event in the
world, the World Karate Championships held in Okinawa, Japan. Campbell began his study of the
martial arts in 1970 with encouragement from his family. Campbell has spent extensive periods
of time in Japan since his youth.
As
a
young
man, Campbell participated in many
martial sport competitions of various types, achieving recognition from
virtually all major recognized bodies internationally. Despite his
accomplishments in the sport aspect, Campbell’s real
talent is in the teaching of the martial arts. An international
competitor on various USA teams for nearly 20 years, as well as winner
of hundreds of competitive awards including state, national,
international and world championship titles in Karate and Full Contact
Fighting, Campbell Sensei now devotes his time currently to studying
and teaching the martial arts in addition to continuing post graduate
studies. Campbell Sensei holds a degree in Oriental Medicine and is
knowledgeable of many of the ancient practices in traditional martial
arts as well as modern interpretations. Although previously a world
class competitive martial arts athlete, Campbell Sensei follows the
direction of his teacher, Nakaima Sensei and no longer supports the
current trends in Sports Karate. Campbell also continues to serve as
an advisor to several martial arts organizations.
NAKAIMA SENSEI'S DESHI
Throughout his life, Nakaima Sensei has taught
many students various arts, but has only accepted Grant Campbell as
uchi deshi (inner chamber or personal disciple) in Ryueiryu. After
years of dedicated study and practice, he is now considered fully
trained and a guardian of the Ryueiryu system. He is the first and
remains the only fully trained student of Nakaima Soke.
